General Information Regarding Graduation

If you have moved and have not updated your address information with the university please come to the Office of the Registrar and do so immediately. Graduation applications serve ONLY to dictate where the diploma is to be sent.

Applications for graduation can be obtained in the Office of the Dean of your major or by web exclusively if your college is listed here (College of Business & Technology: click here; College of Education: click here).

Students become eligible to graduate by completing 128 hours and all program requirements.

Undergraduate students wishing to graduate in December need to make application by the end of April. Graduate students wishing to graduate in December need to make application by August 18.

For graduation in Spring or Summer undergraduate students should apply before the end of October. Graduate students wishing to graduate in May need to make application by January 12 and for summer by May 12.

Ceremonies are held at the close of the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Students who are candidates for graduation are encouraged to participate in the ceremony.

Diplomas will be mailed to those who completed degree requirements six to eight weeks after graduation. Included will be a free copy of the students' transcript.

Summer Commencement    

Friday, July 25, 2008 - Alumni Coliseum

An informal reception will follow the graduation ceremony in the Fred Darling Auxiliary Gym.

Announcements

Graduation invitations and announcements can be ordered during GRAD-FEST or directly from Jostens via their web site at www.jostens.com. Summer 2008 GRAD-FEST will be on June 3rd and 4th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Student Services Building. Fall 2008 GRAD-FEST will be October 28th, 29th, and 30th in the Powell Building Lobby. Personalized invitations take two weeks to be produced. Additionally, the EKU Bookstore has generic invitations.

Ceremony

The academic lines will form by College and degree in the Fred Darling Auxiliary Gym in Alumni Coliseum at 9:15 a.m. for the morning ceremony and at 2:15 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony for spring and fall and at 6:45 p.m. for the summer ceremony. Signs will be posted to designate the head of the line. As candidates check in at their college tables, they will be given a card indicating their place in the line-up. This card will also be used by the reader to call their names and degrees as they walk across the stage. Faculty members and staff from the college dean's office will be present to assist the candidates. Lines will be closed and ready to start the processional at 9:45 a.m. for the morning ceremony and at 2:45 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony for spring and fall and at 7:15 p.m. for the summer ceremony.

Candidates will be recognized by name and will be receiving their diploma covers as they walk across the stage. Graduation caps and gowns are required.

Attire

This is a recognition ceremony that is optional and candidates should be appropriately attired. Academic apparel is required of participants. A compete list of approved Honor Society Cords is included below.

  • Caps, gowns, hoods for graduate students, and honors sashes can be picked up during GRAD-FEST. Caps and gowns will not be mailed. It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements to procure their academic regalia.

University Honors are given to students with the following GPA:

Associate Degrees  
With Distinction 3.5 to 3.69
With High Distinction 3.7 to 4.0
   
Baccalaureate Degrees 
Cum Laude 3.5 to 3.69
Magna Cum Laude 3.7 to 3.89
Summa Cum Laude 3.9 to 4.0

For the purpose of honors recognition:

  1. All semester hours transferred to and attempted at EKU are included, and every repeated and bankrupted course is placed back into the GPA Honors calculation.
  2. Honors GPA calculation at the time of the graduation ceremony does not include the final semester's course work. University Honors on the diploma and final transcript will include the final semester's grades.
  3. Hours in-progress during the graduate candidate's final semester will be counted toward the 64 semester hours University Honors residency requirement.

Handicapped Parking and Seating

Individuals with state issued handicapped parking permits may park in the designated handicapped spaces facing the front, left row of Alumni Coliseum, or in the designated visitors parking area behind the Student Services Building. The accessible entrance to Alumni Coliseum is on the west side or left side entrance of AC.

Accessible seating for individuals with disabilities and a limited number (2-3) of family members is available on the Coliseum floor. Additional wheelchair areas and seating for families is available in sections 106/107 and 111/112. For hard of hearing individuals with family, section 102 is reserved and an interpreter will be provided. Address further inquiry to 859-622-2933.

Live Webcast

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Operating System (Windows 98se, Me, 2000, or XP with Windows Media Player 9 or later), CPU 500 Mhz Processor, RAM 128 MB, Broadband Connection to the Internet (DSL, Cable modem, etc.), 16 bit sound card with speakers or headphones, Video card 32 bit color display card.

Photography

Professional photography will be provided. Candidates will have the opportunity to be individually photographed, alone or with family members, prior to the ceremony in the Fred Darling Auxiliary Gym. Candidates will also be photographed walking across the stage. Proofs and information from the photographer will be sent to the student's EKU email address approximately one week following the ceremony. A videotape ($16) or DVD ($20) of the ceremony will also be available for purchase. Ordering information will be received with the diplomas.

Reception

There will be an informal reception for graduates in the Auxiliary Gym immediately following each graduation ceremony.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to all successful degree candidates by the Office of the Registrar upon the completion of the verification process six (6) to eight (8) weeks after graduation. If you have changed your address or name since you applied for graduation, please inform the Administrative Assistant of your college.
