Calendar
guidelines for determining semester dates are as follows:
Fall Semester
- Begins the first Monday on or after the faculty contract period begins but
no earlier than August 20 to allow for faculty to return and advise.
- There is a holiday on Labor Day. In order to make up for the lost class
for 3 credit hour classes meeting only once a week on Mondays, those classes
will be scheduled an additional 15 minutes per week.
- There is a "Fall Break" on Columbus Day and the following Tuesday,
or during a presidential election year a Break that includes the Monday before
and election day.
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week are holidays.
- Classes end on the Friday 16 weeks after the beginning of classes.
- Finals are the following week.
- Graduation will be the Saturday of Finals Week.
Spring Semester
- Classes begin the third Monday of January or the subsequent Tuesday if that
Monday is Martin Luther King Day.
- There is a holiday for Martin Luther King Day. (There is no longer a Presidents'
Day holiday) In order to make up the lost class for 3 credit hour classes
meeting only once a week on Mondays, those classes will be scheduled an additional
15 minutes per week.
- A spring break will occur the second full week in March.
- Classes end on the Friday 16 weeks after the beginning of classes.
- Finals are the following week.
- Graduation will be the Saturday of Finals week. That Saturday will be the
Saturday a week after Derby Day.
This leaves 13-14 weeks between the end of Spring semester and the beginning
of Fall. The Summer session will fall within that time.
